Sunshine Coast Council has given the green light, under certain conditions, for two tourist campgrounds in Kenilworth, emphasizing the importance of protecting the Mary River and its surrounding environment while ensuring the safety of campers.
The approvals granted aim to allow recreational camping activities to take place within the bounds of the law, all the while minimizing any adverse impacts on the environment. Council’s support extends to farmers seeking to diversify their land use to sustain traditional agricultural practices.
By approving the campgrounds at Paulger Road and Bluff with provisions for regular and event camping, the council addresses concerns raised by the community regarding the number of campers accommodated on these properties. The applications include permits for 20 regular campsites and allowances for up to 100 campsites during five peak holiday periods annually.
Council officials will actively engage with the campground owners to ensure ongoing compliance and monitor the sites regularly. This decision seeks to strike a balance between promoting camping activities and safeguarding the natural surroundings, reflecting the council’s commitment to sustainable land management practices.
