Camping enthusiasts can rejoice as Sunshine Coast Council recently approved two tourist campgrounds in Kenilworth, prioritizing the protection of the Mary River and its surrounding environment while ensuring camper safety. These approvals come with conditions that aim to facilitate recreational camping in a sustainable manner, minimizing any adverse environmental impacts.
The council’s decision reflects its support for farmers seeking to diversify their land use activities, thereby contributing to the preservation of traditional agricultural practices. By granting these approvals, the council aims to provide clarity to landowners and address concerns raised by the community regarding the accommodation of campers on the designated properties.
The campground owners at Paulger Road and Bluff applied for 20 regular camp sites along with event allowances for up to 100 camp sites during five peak holiday periods annually. Council officers will actively engage with the applicants to ensure ongoing compliance and monitor the sites regularly.
This move not only promotes tourism and outdoor recreation but also underscores the council’s commitment to sustainable development and environmental stewardship in the region. As camping continues to be a popular choice for holidaymakers and nature enthusiasts, striking a balance between business interests and environmental conservation remains crucial for the long-term well-being of Kenilworth’s natural surroundings.
